The diamond
The bumps on ostrich leather are feather follicles that closed into quills after the feathers were removed. Is it genuine ostrich?
Here's how you can quickly spot the difference between genuine and fake ostrich leather.
Examine the quill pattern. Genuine ostrich leather will always have an irregular pattern. The quills themselves will also usually be of different sizes and have different distances between them. The quill pattern of fake ostrich will usually be fairly even and uniform.
Lift the bumps. If it's genuine ostrich you will be able to put your fingernail under the quills and lift them up. Remember, fake ostrich is embossed so you will not be ablt to lift up those bumps.
Some parts are smooth Approximately 45% of real ostrich leather is smooth and has no quills. You will usually see some parts of a ostrich item will have smooth areas.
Look for the tiny hole If you look closely at the middle of a quill you will see a tiny hole that was made when the feather was removed. If you see that hole you can be 100% sure that it is the real thing.
